Jonathan Pugh

Senior Lecturer & International Relations Specialist at LCTSS

Jonathan Pugh is an experienced academic and researcher specialising in International Relations, comparative politics, historical analysis and international relations theory. His academic interests focus on global politics, international organisations, Nordic foreign policy, domestic politics of Nordic states, and Nordic cooperation.



He holds an MA in International Relations with distinction from the University of Portsmouth and is currently a PhD researcher in International Relations at the same institution.


Jonathan has extensive teaching, module coordination and academic leadership experience within UK Higher Education. He is both an Associate Fellow and Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and has contributed to the development, preparation and delivery of a wide range of political science and international relations programmes.

Dr Sam Louden-Cooke

Senior Lecturer in International Relations, Politics & Political Geography at LCTSS

Dr Sam Louden-Cooke is a Senior Lecturer with over 10 years of experience in UK Higher Education. She specialises in International Relations, Politics, Political Geography and interdisciplinary social sciences teaching, with a strong focus on engaging students through practical and thought-provoking learning approaches.


Her teaching experience spans a wide range of subjects, including International Relations Theories, Security Studies, Political Thought, Human Rights, Sustainable Futures, and the Geopolitics of Climate Change. Dr Louden-Cooke is passionate about helping students develop critical thinking skills and achieve meaningful academic progress.

Her research interests include secularism, gender equality and family law in early twentieth-century Egypt and Iran; non-Western theories of international relations; decolonising the classroom; and the use of AI in Higher Education.


Alongside her academic career, Sam is also a qualified ESL teacher with extensive experience delivering language training for academic, business and personal development purposes. She additionally has experience in proofreading, copy-editing and local UK politics, bringing valuable real-world insight into her teaching.
